Ingredients
1cupswarmed milkabout 40 seconds in microwave
1largeegg, beatenoptional but, is highly recommended
1Tablespoonolive oilor other vegetable oil, or butter (softened)
1teaspoonsalt
2Tablespoonssugar or more honey
2Tablespoonshoneyor ½ of this amount as more sugar
2½Tablespoonsvital wheat glutenoptional (for more fluffiness)
2½cupsbread flouror all purpose flour
1⅔teaspoonsinstant yeastcan be active dry, quick rising, instant dry, or bread maker yeast
Instructions
In the bread maker, add in the ingredients, in order, as shown. Wet ingredients go in first. Yeast goes in last and should be in a central crater made in the flour.
Use the "basic" bread setting (not quick bread) of your bread maker and press button to Start. For Zojirushi brands, it is course number 1 and takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes for processing and baking total time.
After all processes have completed and it's baked, safely remove the loaf from its container and let it set for about 30 minutes for cooling.
After cooling period, note that the crust will be softer. The bread will still be very warm but you can slice it at this time. Then, serve or store it in a heavy (thick) bakery food bag.
Notes
There are many options shown in the ingredients which give you extreme flexibilities and different recipes, in a sense. Find your preferred way.
My primary, preferred way uses 2% milk, egg, olive oil, and sugar. The nutritional values reflect using those ingredient choices and no other options.
If using water, you can use lukewarm tap water. If using milk, you can microwave it for 45 seconds to become lukewarm.
If using water and milk powder, they should be mixed together before adding.
I have made this using 2% milk, whole milk, and almond milk (unflavored and unsweetened) with successful results. Using skim would work well also, as it is approaching near the water only option.
You can use less than the suggested amount of milk powder. It just represents a more full flavor and approaching some nutritional values of whole milk.
The egg is optional.
The Vital Wheat Gluten is for adding more fluffiness. It is optional.
