Ingredients
Rice
- 1 cup rice uncooked, white long grain
- 2 cups water for rice
Seasonings Solution
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp dark brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp sesame seeds optional
Vegetables Mix
- 2 cups cabbage chopped
- 7 each green onions diced
- ½ medium yellow onion or sweet onion, diced
- ⅓ cup carrots diced or shredded
- 3 Tbsp sesame oil for cooking vegetables
- 4 tsp minced garlic or ½ amount garlic powder
- ¼ tsp cayenne red pepper
Pork Mix
- 1½ lbs boneless pork cubed: any pork loin, tenderloin, boneless pork chops, pork roast
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil for cooking meat
- 6 lge eggs
- 1 tsp minced garlic or ½ amt garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Boil water in a pot. Add rice and stir. Turn off burner, cover pot, & leave unattended & covered for 25 minutes.1 cup rice, 2 cups water
- Prepare an oiled 3-qt (2.8 liter) casserole dish and set aside.
- Start to preheat oven to 375 °F.
- Make the seasonings solution (soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, sesame seeds) and set aside.¼ cup soy sauce, 2 Tbsp dark brown sugar, 2 Tbsp honey, 2 Tbsp sesame seeds
- Prepare vegetables (cabbage, onions, carrots) and add into large mixing bowl.2 cups cabbage, 7 each green onions, ½ medium yellow onion, ⅓ cup carrots
- Add into the veggies: cooked rice, garlic, red pepper, and sesame oil. Mix well to coat and set aside.3 Tbsp sesame oil, 4 tsp minced garlic, ¼ tsp cayenne red pepper
- Cut up pork into small cubes in a bowl and coat with garlic, salt, and sesame oil.1½ lbs boneless pork, 2 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 tsp minced garlic, ½ tsp salt
- In a hot pan (or wok), stir-fry meat mixture at medium-high (or high) for about 5 minutes or until done. Put into bowl and set aside.
- Using same hot meat pan (or wok), stir-fry veggies rice mixture on medium-high for about 4 minutes. Scrape the bottom each ½ minute.
- Pour in the seasoning solution, mix well, scraping bottom, and cook 1 minute.
- Add the cooked meat into the vegetable rice mixture. Distribute it well and evenly. Turn off the burner.
- Add the cooked mixture into the greased casserole dish.
- Make depression craters in the mixture and add into each 1 raw egg. Using a fork, break each yolk and very slightly mix each partially into the casserole mixture.6 lge eggs
- Bake in preheated 375 °F oven for 35 minutes, uncovered, middle rack.

I made this recipe after having a behind-the-scenes look at an Asian restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. They had made an old generational recipe not on their menu and it was unbelievably delicious. So, after a few years of tweaks, here it is. It’s a slightly fried rice, pork, and veggies dish that’s then put into a casserole dish and topped with eggs and finished by baking in the oven.
